Who is Lucy McConnell?
Lucy McConnell works as a Personal Trainer and is studying to become a dietician at uni. Health and fitness is her thing, she lives and breathes it and is very passionate about all areas of nutrition and exercise. For Lucy, joining the gym 4 years ago turned her life around, she lost about 25kg and was able to get herself out of a continual binge drinking cycle that would repeat itself every weekend.
"Over the years the gym has become my little haven where I could recharge and challenge myself. And now I get to help people do the same thing every day in my job which I adore!"
Healthy Living With Lucy
Lucy's advice to anyone wishing to make a healthy lifestyle change is to realise that real, lasting progress takes time! As much as she wants to tell us that there is a rapid 8-week program that designed to give you the body of your dreams, she strongly believes that there is no such thing as a quick fix!
"In fact, many of these plans or diets that promote rapid weight loss are actually really unhealthy for you. Adding in small changes to move your body in a way that you love and feels good for you is far better and more sustainable. If you don’t see yourself still doing it in 3 months time it is probably a no!"
Dieting With Lucy
When it comes to diet, sustainability is key for Lucy! Most of her meals are filled with good healthy whole foods such as veggies and fruit, whole grains and lean proteins, however, she still enjoys a little bit of chocolate or ice cream!
"Food is so important in not only feeding our bodies but also our souls so depriving yourself of those foods you love is a recipe for disaster!"
Lucy's Guilty Pleasure
"Oats! It is very rare that a day goes by where I don’t have two bowls of oats topped with peanut butter, banana and maple syrup and perhaps with some protein powder and cinnamon stirred in. A definite favourite meal."
Working Out With Lucy
Lucy's Workout schedule consists of a combination of weight training and high-intensity cardio sessions. She usually aims for 4 weights sessions a week and 2 F45 cardio classes.
"I used to hate cardio, but since F45 I've changed my perception of cardio training!"
Her weights days are nice and simple! Her aim is always to go as heavy as she can while still maintaining correct form.
"Your muscles will never grow if you don’t challenge them in every session! Aim to increase the amount of weight you are using each week or adding on a rep or two to each set as you progress week to week. This will guarantee that you are always getting stronger and your muscles are continuing to grow."
Lucy's Leg Day Routine:
- Barbell Squats 5 sets x 5 reps (90% 1 rep max)
- Romanian Deadlift 4 sets x 8 reps
Barbell Hip Thrust 3 sets x 10 reps
Bulgarian Split Squats 3 sets x 10 reps
Leg Extension Machine 3 sets x 10 reps
Lying Leg Curl Machine 3 sets x 10 reps
"The swimsuits from the Hessian Collection surprised me a lot! I'm usually disappointed by swimsuits that I order online, they just don’t fit right. When I put on the bikinis from the Hessian Collection I was blown away at how soft the fabric was, they felt high quality and they fit perfectly. I will definitely be adding more Hessian bikinis to my collection this summer, especially now that I know I will not be disappointed!"

Working towards your neutral posture, as I mentioned above, promotes balance within the opposing muscle groups and leads to the muscular and skeletal system working free of dysfunction. Meaning that when one muscle group is too short, it creates a lengthening effect on the opposing muscle groups. Eventuating in these lengthened muscles to working overtime to bring the body back to neutral because the shortened muscles have pulled the body out of this neutral alignment.
I saw a psychologist for about a year, who assisted me in breaking down my thought patterns and how to think about them rationally. Fortunately, I haven't had one in 7 months! I am a lot more vocal nowadays which I find helpful, I know that when a sensation or an actual attack comes I should go through the following:
She works hard so she can travel and she always books trips as goals to motivate her, no matter how far in advance! She never limits herself, if a travel opportunity arises, she goes with it whether it's with friends, solo trip, or in 5 days time or a year away!
